PRIZE RULES (22nd Edition)
The Bernácer Prize is awarded annually to European economists under the age of 40, who have made outstanding contributions in the fields of macroeconomics and finance.
The prize was established in 2001 to recognise the work of young economists and to stimulate research on European macroeconomics and financial issues. After twenty consecutive editions, the Bernacer Prize is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious awards for European economists.
The winner will be required to attend the award ceremony and, if requested, give a short speech as part of the ceremony proceedings.
Eligibility
Candidates should be European economists under 40 (at 1 January 2023).
The age limit can be extended in certain circumstances (in particular, for maternity leave).
In previous editions of the Prize, nominees were required to be nationals of EU member countries. Since the 21st edition, eligibility conditions have been changed to include economists from other European countries as well.
Nomination Procedure
Nominations should be presented in English and include the following information:
- Nominee's name, e-mail, present occupation, title and working institution.
- Curriculum Vitae and other supporting documents which provide relevant information about the nominee.
- Name, e-mail, present occupational title and institution of the person submitting the nomination.

Who may nominate
Universities, research institutions and all members of the economics' academic community may submit one or more nominations. Self nominations are accepted.
Length of candidacy
Nominees will be considered for three years.
Nomination deadline
Nominations must be sunmitted by 28 July 2023.
Selection process
Nominations will be assessed by an independent Selection Committee composed by recognized members of the academic community. The award will be granted to the nominee obtaining the majority vote of the Selection Committee.
Should two candidates receive the same number of votes, the Chairman of the Committee will cast the deciding vote.
